We returned from Virginia and had another half a day in Washington DC. So we went Moll, which is typical tourist place but the place where you feel the capital of US the most. We walked all the way from home to the mall.
There is a long long walking road which lead you from Capitol Hill to the moll. Actually, I've been here 16 years before. I was 11 but I remember this unforgettable Washington Moll well. My purpose was to visit same place again and see how I feel now, compare to 11 years before. Also, there is a World War 2 memorial built in 2004. This one I have't seen yet so visiting the memorial was another purpose.
The road lead to the moll is a beautiful path. The tall moll comes closer and closer.
I clearly saw the colour is changed from one third of the moll. The construction has been pended during civil war so the color of stone are not same. Stones are collected from all over the world and the last stone brought from abroad was from Okinawa.
Memorial of World War 2. The mall itself existed for long year but this memorial was added in 2004.
Two sides of the battlefields, Pacific and Atlantic.
Names of the major battlefields include Iwo jima and Okinawa.
I heard there were lots of agree and disagree about constructing this memorial. But I think it's important to have a place where you remember the past. Stop at the memorial for a while and think of those ages and necessary for global peace. Japan has Hiroshima. By visiting Hiroshima, people strongly wish for eternal piece and this wish prevent from war in future. I think every country who took role in the war must have something which let people remember the past. Washington DC, the capitol of the United States, specially in the middle of the moll cannot be better for such a location. The location is in between Parament, where lots of critical issue in the world are decided and the memorial of Lincoln who is one of the best presidents in the country loves piece, fair life for everybody.
We walked further to greet Lincoln. Huge statue of Lincoln is sitting there watching straight toward the parlament. I looked up to him and wished world's peace.
When I visited DC 16 years before, I was actually bored. Statues and buildings are not so interesting for 11 years old child. But now I can say proudly that I've been here. I saw, I read, and I felt.
Some people say why New York is not the capital. But yes, Washington DC is the real capital. Here exist other type of the power which makes the city so strong and impressive.
